Weekly Traffic Report: 2 Dead in 69 Accidents
According to the Police Press Office’s report covering October 20-26, a total of 69 traffic accidents occurred across the country. Two people lost their lives and 25 others were injured. The most common causes were speeding and failure to stop at intersections.
During traffic inspections, 17,330 drivers were checked, with legal action taken against 2,839 of them.
The report states that of the 69 accidents, 2 were fatal, 16 resulted in injuries, and 51 caused property damage. The total material damage from these accidents was reported at 3,179,200 TL.
Accidents by district were recorded as follows: Nicosia – 22, Famagusta – 11, Kyrenia – 23, Güzelyurt – 6, and İskele – 7.
The leading causes of accidents were speeding (24 cases), failure to stop at intersections (17), careless driving (14), tailgating (8), and other factors (6).
Among traffic violations, the most frequent were speeding (905 cases), driving without a vehicle registration certificate (347), driving under the influence of alcohol (97), and disobeying traffic signs (206).
As a result of inspections, 304 vehicles were impounded, and 7 drivers were arrested.
