During the hearing at Adana 12th High Criminal Court, Alpargün participated via the Audio-Visual Information System from prison. Lawyers and some plaintiffs were present in the courtroom.

The public prosecutor reiterated their stance, recommending a prison sentence of up to 22 years and 6 months for Alpargün on charges of “causing multiple deaths and injuries through conscious negligence.”

In his defense, Alpargün claimed the building was constructed in accordance with legal regulations, stating:
“I did not use any substandard materials in construction. The building was built in compliance with the 1975 Earthquake Regulation. The project is complete and flawless. The building received occupancy approval. I have serious health issues and am a cancer patient. I have been in detention for 33 months. I request my release and acquittal.”

Plaintiffs attending the trial requested that Alpargün be punished for “possible intentional killing,” emphasizing the findings of a six-member expert panel from Konya Technical University. Their 46-page second expert report was submitted to the court, urging that the prosecutor amend their opinion accordingly.

Following the statements, the court sentenced Hasan Alpargün once again to 62 life terms and 865 years in prison for “causing multiple deaths and injuries through possible intent” and ruled that his detention will continue.

Case Background

An arrest warrant had been issued for Alpargün in relation to the collapsed Alpargün Apartment. It was determined that he traveled to the TRNC on February 6, 2023. After being handed over to Lefkoşa Police, Alpargün was transferred to Adana and arrested on February 13, 2023.

It was alleged that Alpargün attempted to transfer $990,000, €890,000, and 500,000 TL from Turkey to the TRNC and sought to purchase an apartment in Lefkoşa.

Previously, on September 27, 2024, Adana 12th High Criminal Court had sentenced Alpargün to 62 life terms and 865 years in prison for “causing multiple deaths and injuries through possible intent.” However, the 18th Criminal Chamber of the Adana Regional Court overturned the verdict, citing legal irregularities, and sent the case back to the 12th High Criminal Court for retrial.
