During his visit, Erhürman was briefed on the traffic issues and spoke with citizens waiting to cross, listening to their concerns. He said his visit aimed to assess the problems on site and highlighted that the congestion could be alleviated if the Greek Cypriot side opened more booths and increased the number of officers.

Erhürman noted that processing times on the southern side varied between five seconds and three minutes, stressing the importance of addressing the technical problems that cause delays.

He also stated that infrastructure work at Metehan is scheduled to begin in December, reminding that the second half of December is traditionally the busiest period for crossings. To prevent further disruption during that time, Erhürman said discussions had already begun with the United Nations regarding possible measures.

Referring to previous difficulties in ambulance crossings, the President added that the UN is considering facilitating ambulance passage through the Ledra Palace Crossing Point.

Concluding his remarks, Erhürman emphasized that the real solution lies in opening at least one additional vehicle crossing in Nicosia and assured that his office will continue working toward that goal.
