Weekly Traffic Report: 76 Accidents, 21 Injured
A total of 76 traffic accidents occurred between October 27 and November 2, leaving 21 people injured, according to police data. The leading cause of accidents was recorded as speeding. During traffic inspections, 3,039 drivers were reported, 273 vehicles were banned from the roads, and 11 drivers were arrested.
According to the police statement, of the 76 accidents recorded last week, 13 resulted in injuries and 63 caused property damage. The 21 injuries were reported from the collisions that resulted in bodily harm.
The causes of the accidents were listed as follows: speeding (26), failing to stop at junctions (19), careless driving (16), tailgating (9), and other factors (6).
The total material damage from the accidents was estimated at 4,850,000 TL. The district breakdown of the accidents was: Kyrenia 28, Nicosia 19, Famagusta 16, Iskele 7, and Güzelyurt 6.

During the same period, police conducted traffic checks on 19,315 drivers across the country. Of these, 3,039 were found to have committed offences. As a result, 273 vehicles were banned from traffic, and 11 drivers were taken into custody.

Speeding (1,103), driving without road tax (240), failing to obey traffic signs and signals (183), driving without inspection (92), speed violations detected by mobile cameras (84), driving under the influence of alcohol (78), driving without or outside the scope of insurance (72), careless driving (45), using tinted windows obstructing visibility (38), failing to comply with lighting regulations or driving with inadequate lights (30), not wearing a seat belt (20), using a mobile phone while driving (15), driving without a licence (14), dangerous driving (8), running red lights (7), operating passenger transport vehicles without a “T” permit (7), operating goods transport vehicles without a “B” permit (6), riding a motorcycle without a helmet (1), and 1,080 other traffic offences.
