President of the Champion Angels Association Ruşen Yücesoylu Karakaya criticized the prosecutor’s conduct, saying, “The prosecutor, who should have been standing with us, gave his statement in silence and ignored the families. How are we supposed to endure this? We demand justice for our children.”

The case concerns the collapse of the Grand İsias Hotel in Adıyaman during the February 6 earthquakes, which killed 35 people from Famagusta, including members of the Turkish Cypriot school volleyball team known as the Champion Angels.

Karakaya expressed frustration over the continued delays, stating, “They want another expert panel, claiming there’s no responsibility. It’s impossible — everything is clear. What more can we do? We are all devastated by grief.”

Emphasizing that their struggle for justice extends beyond their own loss, she added, “We are doing this for Turkey’s future, for the safety of other children.”

“All the families and guides are here today,” she said. “This case will end with probable intent. You cannot remain indifferent to the evidence. Our fight is not over.”
