Speaking to Medyascope during his visit to Adıyaman for the İsias Hotel trial, Üstel evaluated the presidential election held on 19 October, stating that the government respects the will of the people and will continue its work with determination. “The election is over; the people’s will has manifested itself at the ballot box,” he said.

Üstel emphasized that relations with Turkey would continue in the closest possible manner, describing the partnership as one between two brotherly nations. “As a government, we will continue on our path. Our relations with the Republic of Turkey will move forward as firmly as ever,” he noted.

Reiterating that the two-state solution is the TRNC’s unwavering policy, Üstel reminded that both assemblies have unanimously adopted resolutions supporting this stance. He said the government would continue efforts to promote the TRNC’s vision of two sovereign and equal states on the international stage.

“Our position is clear: two states, sovereign and equal, recognized as international actors. We will keep fighting to make this understood worldwide,” Üstel declared.

He stressed the significance of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s consistent advocacy for the two-state policy, noting that Ankara’s continued support is vital for the TRNC. “President Erdoğan expresses this policy at every platform, and as long as he does, we will stand firmly by it,” Üstel said.

Referring also to remarks by MHP leader Devlet Bahçeli on the Cyprus issue, Üstel reiterated that the TRNC will not step back from its two-state position.

Regarding the newly elected President Tufan Erhürman’s upcoming visit to Turkey, Üstel confirmed that the trip will take place in the coming days.
