MİK President Canseç and Staff Member Arman Detained for Additional Seven Days
As part of an investigation conducted by the Financial Crimes Division, Central Tenders Commission (MİK) President Salih Canseç and MİK staff member Yönel Arman have been remanded in custody for an additional seven days. The two appeared in court today before Nicosia District Court Judge Şevket Gazi, who approved the extension.
Deputy Inspector Namık Kemal Baz stated that the suspects underwent medical checks during their initial detention period. He added that 15 people had been questioned in connection with the case, with statements obtained from 12 individuals.
Baz reported that WhatsApp messages on Canseç’s phone revealed he sent tender-related documents to a businessperson and requested money. Canseç’s office computer has been seized as evidence, and both suspects’ phones were sent to the data unit for examination. Efforts are also underway to restore backups from Canseç’s phone.
Highlighting the risk that the suspects could interfere with the investigation if released, Baz requested the additional seven days of detention.
The judge ruled that Canseç and Arman remain in custody for seven more days.
They face charges of bribery, accepting money in exchange for favoritism, and abuse of office.
