The newspaper highlighted two potential challenges: the first being “imposition of timelines” and the second “Erhürman’s insistence on defining next steps if a new dialogue fails.”

Politis also noted that if no agreement is reached on procedural matters during the meeting, everyday issues, including the opening of new border crossings, are likely to be immediately placed on the table for resolution.

Greek Cypriot Foreign Ministry

According to Haravgi, Greek Cypriot Government Spokesperson Konstantinos Letimbotis stated that Greek Cypriot Leader Nikos Christodoulides will attend the meeting with the same constructive and sincere political intent consistently recorded in past periods, aiming for substantive negotiations to resume from where they were left.

Letimbotis referred to the current developments, including the appointment of the UN Secretary-General’s personal envoy for Cyprus, the designation of a political figure by the EU, and the ongoing negotiations under the UN Secretary-General’s auspices.

Despite the challenges, Letimbotis emphasized that the efforts will continue sensibly and decisively toward an agreed solution benefiting both Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots. He added that time is not in their favor and that Confidence-Building Measures (CBMs) cannot replace actual negotiations.

Political Party Statements

Alithia reported under the headline, “A Month After Erhürman’s Election: Activity Seen Due to Christodoulides—Everything Changes Except the Government’s Story,” noting that the Greek Cypriot government describes the current momentum as its own responsibility without referring to changes in the Turkish Cypriot community.

The newspaper also cited statements from the DIKO and DIIPA parties. Both parties emphasized adherence to the UN-Crans Montana framework and expect Erhürman to demonstrate the next steps in practice. DIKO leader Nikolas Papadopoulos remarked that Erhürman’s statements differ from those of his predecessor, adding that “the beginning has not started with good signs” and that the necessary steps are now in Erhürman’s hands.

DIIPA reiterated its position that negotiations should proceed based on UN resolutions and the Guterres framework.

Fileleftheros reported under the headline, “Message Exchange Ahead of Thursday’s Meeting—Christodoulides and Erhürman Hope for Positive Outcome,” noting that the leaders have made positive statements in the last 24 hours regarding the results they wish to achieve.
