Erdoğan: Security of TRNC Directly Linked to Turkey’s Security
Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan emphasized the close connection between the security of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) and that of Turkey, while outlining Ankara’s continued regional initiatives.
Speaking at the AK Party parliamentary group meeting, Erdoğan said Turkey would continue efforts to ensure lasting peace, stability, and reconstruction in Syria, noting that these initiatives are directly linked to Turkey’s own security. “The security of Syria is our security,” he said, adding that the safety of Palestine, Sudan, Azerbaijan, the TRNC, Iraq, Iran, and Ukraine is also closely tied to Turkey’s national security.
Erdoğan recalled that when the AK Party came to power in 2002, it emphasized respect for the sovereignty of other countries and sought to strengthen bonds with Turkey’s “cultural and historical geography.” He stated that while Turkey would protect its borders, it also maintains a broader regional responsibility.
