The meeting was held under the auspices of the UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative and the Head of the UN Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP) in the buffer zone. Siddique also noted that the UN Secretary-General’s Personal Envoy, María Angela Holguín Cuéllar, participated via video conference.

According to the UN statement, the leaders had the opportunity to exchange views in a candid and constructive environment. Siddique added that Erhürman and Christodoulides agreed to hold a joint meeting during Holguín’s visit to the island in early December and expressed readiness to work toward the next broader informal meeting to be organized by the Secretary-General.

The leaders also agreed to explore additional opportunities for joint meetings. Siddique further reported that the leaders instructed their representatives to hold regular consultations to prepare for Holguín’s visit and the upcoming broader informal UN-led meeting.
