Christodoulides: Entering a Process Aimed at Restarting Negotiations
Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Christodoulides, following his meeting with Turkish Cypriot leader Tufan Erhürman in the buffer zone, stated that “we are entering a process aimed at restarting negotiations from where they left off.”
According to Kathimerini, Christodoulides emphasized that the meeting was not a negotiation per se, noting that “Erhürman raised certain issues, while I raised others.” He highlighted the agreement to hold a joint meeting with UN Secretary-General’s Personal Envoy for Cyprus, María Angela Holguín, as a positive development.
The Greek Cypriot broadcaster RIK reported that Holguín is scheduled to meet with the leaders on December 5 and 6. The meeting also resulted in a decision for the negotiators to begin consultations to prepare both the joint meeting with Holguín and the next informal UN-led conference.
