‘Non-Destabilizing’ Peace in Ukraine Still Possible: Erdoğan

‘Non-Destabilizing’ Peace in Ukraine Still Possible: Erdoğan

Speaking to reporters aboard his plane heading back to Ankara, Erdoğan said a fair peace would leave “no losers” and stressed that any plan must address “the legitimate security needs of both sides without creating new fault lines.”

His remarks came after U.S. President Donald Trump presented a 28-point ceasefire and settlement proposal to Kiev, which Ukrainian officials rejected as a threat to their sovereignty. Erdoğan, however, said the initiative “can become a foundation” if adjusted through dialogue.

“If a plan meets the expectations of both sides and does not generate fresh instability, then an agreement is possible,” he said, adding that Turkey remains ready to facilitate talks as it did during earlier Istanbul-hosted negotiations.

The president weighed in on Turkey’s domestic “Terror-Free Turkey” initiative. He praised the parliament’s cross-party commission, which recently decided to visit Imrali Island, as “accelerating the dismantling of terrorism.” He criticized the main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) for declining to join the delegation.

Erdoğan sharply slammed Israel’s ongoing military operations, saying global silence encouraged Tel Aviv’s “recklessness.” He argued that “countries enabling Israel’s impunity must finally put their weight on the scales.”

“Our agenda was dominated by the suffering in Gaza,” he added, insisting that a two-state solution with East Jerusalem as the Palestinian capital remains the sole path to durable peace.
