Speaking on Ada TV’s Kıbrıs Gündemi program hosted by Erkan Eğmez, Çeler also highlighted uncontrolled tourist entries, overcrowded classrooms, and the urgent need for a population census.

Security Threats and Journalist Safety
Çeler emphasized that the country is exposed to all kinds of threats, citing an incident where two 18–19-year-olds entered on tourist visas and set fire to a workplace. He said attacks on journalists and intimidation extending to family members are unacceptable, targeting not just reporters but the public’s right to information.

He called for proper vetting of entrants, stating, “We are not truly safe. Who comes here and why must be investigated.” He also stressed that individuals entering the country for economic exploitation or mafia activities endanger citizens, with journalists reporting on these matters facing threats.

Tourist Entry and Tracking
Pointing out gaps at border checkpoints and transport entry points, Çeler urged the government to coordinate with Turkey on reciprocity to prevent prejudice. He highlighted that while casinos record detailed guest information beforehand, tourists’ accommodations and movements are currently not tracked, leaving potential risks.

Domestic Violence and TOCED Implementation
Marking 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, Çeler noted rising femicides and unresolved deaths. He reminded that TDP’s initiatives, including the Women’s Shelter, cooperation with Lefkoşa Municipality, and the Bar Association’s legal aid regulation, remain active. However, the Domestic Violence Law is still pending, and TOCED implementation requires continued action.

Education Challenges
Çeler drew attention to severe overcrowding and diversity challenges in schools: 45 foreign nationalities in classrooms, 40 students per class, and students unable to speak Turkish being taught alongside native speakers. He stressed that pandemic-related educational losses have yet to be addressed and defended teachers’ right to strike.

Call for Societal Mobilization
Çeler called for trustworthy political leadership, criticizing corruption and the lack of officials returning public funds. He emphasized the need for Erhürman’s administration to support confidence-building measures, believing this could facilitate tangible progress with Southern Cyprus.

Elections and Political Outlook
Referencing upcoming elections in the South and delayed elections in the TRNC, Çeler stressed the urgency of holding timely elections. He said TDP is now seen differently by society, presenting itself as a party focused on labor, justice, fair taxation, and providing quality public services while supporting both local and national capital.
