MİK Head Salih Canseç Remanded for Five More Days
Central Tender Commission (MİK) President Salih Canseç will remain in police custody for another five days on charges of accepting bribes and abuse of office, as the investigation deepens. A businessperson has told police that he paid Canseç a total of 900,000 TL in six instalments — an allegation the suspect denies.
Canseç, who was arrested by the Police General Directorate’s Financial Crimes Unit, was brought before the Nicosia District Court again today.
He is being investigated on charges of “accepting bribes, receiving rewards in exchange for favouritism as a public official, and abuse of office.”
Ongoing Investigation
During the hearing before Judge Şevket Gazi, both the prosecutor and the defence attorney were present.
Inspector Namık Kemal Baz of the Financial Crimes Unit told the court that the alleged offences occurred between 11 November 2022 and 20 November 2023, and that the suspect was first detained on 12 November.
Baz said Canseç was last brought to court on 21 November, when a further five-day detention order had been granted.
The inspector reported that 13 people had been questioned and 10 statements obtained so far, while examinations of the suspect’s mobile phone and office computer were still under way.
Claim of 900,000 TL in Payments
Baz informed the court that a businessperson had testified to paying Canseç a total of 900,000 TL in six separate transactions between 16 November 2023 and 10 August 2025. According to the testimony, the payments were allegedly made not directly in Canseç’s name, but in the name of another employee at the commission.
He said that when asked to explain the allegation, Canseç denied all claims.
Baz added that further statements and evidence needed to be collected and requested additional time for the investigation.
Judge Şevket Gazi granted the request and ordered that Canseç remain in police custody for five more days.
