Güler: Fair Solution in Cyprus Requires Equal Status for Turkish Cypriots

Speaking at the TBMM Plan and Budget Committee, Güler emphasized that a fair and lasting solution in Cyprus requires recognition of the Turkish Cypriots’ sovereign equality and equal international status.

According to Anadolu Agency, Güler presented the 2026 budgets of the Ministry of National Defense and its affiliated institutions at the committee.

He underlined that every effort is being made to protect Turkey’s rights and interests across both land and sea, and that activities in the Aegean and Eastern Mediterranean are carried out effectively in line with national interests.

Güler also expressed a desire to resolve issues with Greece, strengthen the current positive dialogue, and maintain the Aegean as a region of peace and stability. He stressed that Turkey is taking diplomatic measures against any unilateral projects or initiatives pursued by Greece in the region and is implementing all necessary reciprocal measures in accordance with international law.

Highlighting that no project disregarding Turkey or attempting to seize its rights in the Aegean and Eastern Mediterranean can succeed, Güler said:

"We continue to defend the rights and interests of our Cypriot brothers. The reality is that the only path to a fair and lasting solution on the island is the recognition of the Turkish Cypriots’ sovereign equality and equal international status. Meanwhile, the South Cyprus Administration’s attempts to expand military and political relations both regionally and internationally, and its arms ambitions, will heighten tension and threaten stability. Accordingly, while taking necessary measures under our proactive defense and security policy, I want to reiterate that we are always alongside our Cypriot brothers."
