Ali Kişmir’s Constitutional Court Case Adjourned to 4 December
The trial of Press-Sen President Ali Kişmir, who faces up to 10 years in prison over a social media post, was adjourned to 4 December following today’s hearing at the Constitutional Court. The session, which began at 9 a.m., marked the latest development in the prosecution of the journalist and author over a text he shared on social media.
Kişmir is represented by his lawyer, Cyprus Turkish Bar Association President Hasan Esendağlı. The case was heard at the Court today.
During the hearing, Kişmir’s lawyer referred to the relevant legislation and provisions of the European Court of Human Rights, arguing that the article written by Kişmir did not constitute a criminal offence. He also questioned the legal basis for demanding a 10-year prison sentence for an article related to the Security Forces when the offence of insulting the state carries a maximum sentence of five years.
Following the arguments, the Court adjourned the case to 4 December, when the prosecution will be heard.
