Speaking at an event commemorating Özker Özgür, Stefanu stated that despite political challenges and a difficult climate, AKEL remains committed to dialogue and to supporting a federal model in which Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots can jointly govern their shared state.

According to Haravgi, Stefanu attended the presentation of a book by Sol Hareket member Abdullah Korkmazhan about Özker Özgür, a former leader of the Republican Turkish Party (CTP), former minister and deputy prime minister, and founder of the United Cyprus Party (BKP). At the event, Stefanu said AKEL continues to fight for a solution that will free Cyprus from dependence on motherlands and imperialist powers.

Stefanu noted that the recent election for the Turkish Cypriot leadership provides a perspective for resuming negotiations from where they stalled at Crans Montana, under the framework of the Guterres initiative.

Stefanu highlighted Özker Özgür’s lifelong commitment to peace, democracy, and reconciliation, describing him as politically conscious, opposed to injustice and nationalism, and closely collaborating with former Greek Cypriot leader Dimitris Christofias and AKEL. He added that Özgür symbolizes a shared homeland and the continuation of bicommunal relations.
