Investigation Into Car Dealership Arson Expands as Threats Continue
New evidence has emerged in the investigation of the arson at a car dealership in Kyrenia, while threats against businesses and journalists persist.
According to Haber Kıbrıs, the probe into the incident is expanding daily. Mehmet Gürler, Muhammed Talha Kömür, Mehmet Efe Kilimci, and Selahattin Pancar, who were previously detained in connection with the case, were brought back to Kyrenia District Court for an extension of their detention.
Police examined the suspects’ entry dates to the island and their contact networks. Gürler and Kömür entered on 22 November, while Kilimci and Pancar arrived on 4 November. Authorities are also investigating the suspects’ connections within the country.
Officer Dağdelen noted that the arson had a wide impact and that businesses are still receiving threats, with new statements being submitted to the police. He added that the threats are not limited to business owners, as journalists are also being targeted, creating unease in society and undermining trust in the business community.
Due to the seriousness of the case and the multidimensional nature of the investigation, the court ordered that the suspects remain in custody for an additional eight days.
