Fidan Says EU Membership Remains Strategic Goal
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan reiterated that European Union membership remains a strategic objective for Turkey, saying Ankara expects the opening of new negotiation chapters. His remarks came during the 32nd OSCE Ministerial Council Meeting held in Vienna.
According to a statement shared by the Foreign Ministry on social media, Fidan addressed participants at the gathering in the Austrian capital, where he also met with Austrian Foreign Minister Beate Meinl-Reisinger on the sidelines of the event.
During their meeting, the two ministers discussed the latest developments in efforts to end the Russia-Ukraine war, as well as the current state of Turkey–EU relations. Fidan stressed that Turkey continues to view EU membership as a key strategic goal and underlined Ankara’s expectation that accession negotiation chapters be opened.
The talks also covered broader regional developments and cooperation within the OSCE framework.
