Doctors’ Union Launches “No-Signature Action” Across All Public Health Units

The Cyprus Turkish Doctors’ Union (Tıp-İş) announced that it has launched a “no-signature action” across all public health units starting this week, protesting what it describes as “unqualified appointments” and “arbitrary assignments” within the public health system. The union said the action will continue unless concrete steps are taken to address the situation.

In a statement, Tıp-İş said it has repeatedly warned authorities and the public about the growing concerns over appointments and placements that allegedly disregard merit, yet the practices persist. According to the union, these decisions have rendered the public health system “unable to function properly.”

The union accused the government of pursuing legal and regulatory changes that fail to prioritise public health and ignore the principle of meritocracy among health workers, arguing that such an approach threatens the public’s right to healthcare. It further claimed that current policies not only disrupt public health services but also serve as tools for “favouritism” and “providing profit to certain circles” through the healthcare system.

Tıp-İş said it launched the action as part of its professional responsibility, stressing that the protests will “continue decisively and escalate” unless the authorities implement concrete, merit-based measures.

The Doctors’ Union stated that the responsibility for the disruptions in healthcare services lies with “the political will that insists on maintaining these policies.”
