Speaking to reporters after her bilateral meeting with President Erhürman, Holguín congratulated him on his election and described their discussion as “very good and useful.”

Expressing satisfaction at hosting the leaders’ meeting next week, Holguín stressed that she aims for the talks with both leaders to yield meaningful progress.

Holguín recalled her recent meetings in Amman with members of the bicommunal Youth Committee, describing them as “very productive.” She added: “I think this is what we want— a new atmosphere on the island. And I hope people realise they need to support the leaders’ efforts. The leaders must succeed. This is my message, and I hope to have a very good and productive week in the country.”

The Colombian diplomat is scheduled to meet Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Christodoulides tomorrow.

The trilateral meeting with President Erhürman and Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Christodoulides, attended by Holguín, is expected to take place on Thursday, 11 December.

The decision to hold the trilateral meeting was made during the leaders’ first encounter on 20 November, hosted by the Special Representative of the Secretary-General in Cyprus and Head of UNFICYP, Khassim Diagne.
