Budget Marathon Begins: Ten-Day Debate to Conclude on 19 December

The 2026 Central Government Budget Bill, totalling 190 billion 634 million TL, will be debated article by article at the Republic Assembly’s General Council from 8–19 December. All ministries and affiliated institutions will have their budgets examined in detail during the marathon sessions.

The General Council begins deliberations on the 2026 Fiscal Year Central Government Budget Bill today, with the ten-day process set to conclude on Friday, 19 December.

The 190 billion 634 million 850 thousand TL budget bill had been approved by majority vote in the Assembly’s Economy, Finance, Budget and Planning Committee and referred to the General Council.


Programme

On the opening day, Committee Chair Resmiye Eroğlu CANALTAY will present the committee report. This will be followed by general debate, which will begin with a presentation by Finance Minister Özdemir Berova. The 801 million 982 thousand TL budget of the Presidency will also be discussed.

9 December, Tuesday:
The General Council will examine the budgets of:

  • Republic Assembly: 843 million 504 thousand TL

  • Prime Ministry: 6 billion 185 million 593 thousand TL

  • BRTK (Bayrak Radio Television Corporation): 2 billion 136 million 665 thousand TL

  • Cyprus Foundations Administration: 741 million 694 thousand TL

  • Religious Affairs Department: 730 million 881 thousand TL

  • Broadcasting High Council (YYK): 26 million 354 thousand TL

  • Personal Data Protection Board: 15 million 62 thousand TL

10 December, Wednesday:
Debate will continue with:

  • Deputy Prime Ministry, Ministry of Tourism, Culture, Youth and Environment: 2 billion 725 million 229 thousand TL
