Speaking to Politis 107.6 radio, Michaelidou said the programme would be relaunched after changes were made in response to concerns previously raised. She described the Imagine Programme as an important confidence-building measure.

Michaelidou recalled that the Turkish Cypriot side withdrew from the programme in 2022 following a decision by then Turkish Cypriot leader Ersin Tatar, adding that adjustments had since been implemented to address issues that had been highlighted at the time.

The Imagine Programme has been implemented since 2016 as an official confidence-building measure under the auspices of the Bicommunal Technical Committee on Education. It is carried out by the Association for Historical Dialogue and Research (AHDR) and is funded by the German Federal Foreign Office.

The programme is based on experiential workshops focusing on peace, human rights and anti-racism. Participation is voluntary and requires parental consent for students.

Activities begin with single-community workshops held in schools and are followed by bicommunal meetings organised in the United Nations-controlled buffer zone, where no identity checks are carried out.

To date, more than 8,000 students and over 2,500 teachers have taken part in the Imagine Programme.
