PM Undersecretary Remanded in Custody for Five More Days
Prime Ministry Undersecretary Hüseyin Cahitoğlu, who was arrested on charges including bribery and abuse of office as part of an investigation by the Financial Crimes Unit of the Police General Directorate, was brought before the Nicosia District Court again today. The court ordered that he remain in custody for a further five days.
Cahitoğlu faces charges of accepting, offering and soliciting bribes, abuse of duty, unlawful possession of explosives and unlawful possession of a firearm.
As part of the investigation, a computer and a USB flash drive belonging to the suspect were seized as evidence. Police told the court that examinations of the digital materials are ongoing, while Cahitoğlu’s bank accounts are also being scrutinised within the scope of the investigation.
