In a statement, the CMP expressed its appreciation to the Federal Republic of Germany for the €200,000 contribution to the Committee’s work. It said that, with this latest donation, Germany’s total financial support to the CMP since 2006 has reached €1.16 million.

The statement underlined that the donations have made an important contribution throughout 2025 to the identification of the remains of missing persons, their identification process and their return to their families.

The CMP stressed that these efforts aim to bring an end to the long-standing uncertainty experienced by the relatives of missing persons.

It was recalled that the CMP was established in April 1981 under United Nations auspices, following calls in two United Nations General Assembly resolutions for the creation of such a mechanism, and in line with an agreement reached between the Turkish Cypriot and Greek Cypriot communities.

The statement noted that the CMP Project, which covers the exhumation, identification and return of missing persons to their families, was actively launched in 2006, with the European Union continuing to serve as the project’s main financial contributor.

To date, the CMP said, a total of 1,063 missing persons, both Turkish Cypriot and Greek Cypriot, have been identified and returned to their families following proper funeral ceremonies.

The CMP also underlined that continued support from donor countries and organisations remains essential to ensure the sustainability of this bicommunal humanitarian project.
